These discharges were a result of
snowmelt runoff raising the water level in the sedimentation ponds to the elevation of the
principal spillways. Measured flow rates were two gallons per minute (gpm) and 15 gpm
from Ouffall 001A and 002A, respectively. This was the only observed discharge for
ouffall 002A during the quarter. HGTI conservatively estimates that the discharge lasted
for 10 days and that the rate was 15 gpm (0.022 million gallons per day [mgd]) for the 10
day period. Samples were collected for laboratory analysis. Outfall 001A discharged
intermittently throughout the quarter. Samples were also collected for laboratory
analysis in May and June. The ongoing discharge ranged from 0.01 gpm to 0,1 gpm. It
was determined that the ongoing discharge was due to a small hole in the principal
spillway riser pipe. In late June, the water level was drawn down so that the pipe can be
repaired and the leakage stopped. Approximately 0.043 millions gallons per day were
discharged from Outfall 001A during the 10 day draw down period.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 307-887-3903 or Mr.
John Weinman, the Certified Operator in Charge, at 970-871-8125.
Sincerely,
riB an P.
