This Elow has been pumped to the ~!1 pond
for discharge through outfall point 001.. Although the flow has reduced to
approximately 60 gpm, the constant flow through the 4i1 pond has reduced the
settling time for other suspended solids and has appearently reduced the
oxidation time on total iron. Considering these problems and the quality of
the mine water(see attached summary), we wish to establish a 4th outfall
point to allow direct discharge o: mine water into Hubbard Crer_I:. Attached
is a copy o~ Figure 2, page 20 of 20 Erom our permit with tie proposed new
outfall point shown.
At the time of the application Eor the present permit the surface run-oE~
from a portion of the disturbe. area Glowed into L`2 pond nor settling and
into the ~1 pond Eor discharge From outfall 001. part of the diversion
around the disturbed area also `lowed into the l;l pond by way o' the ephemeral
drainage north o: the mine. Subsequent to a Te~lutical Revision approved by CMIR
in September 1984, the .:rainage was re-alligned and diverted around the ~/1
pond and the 1~2 pond was eliminated. These changes have reduced the ~le.sign
surface inflo~•~ into the pond to 0.57 acre--n~~t. ::.,r ;, 10 fear 24 dour storm.
The discharge structure has been cha.iged to a 2" dewaterit~ device and an
8" primary spillway. The maximum Elow from tlic~ primary spillway is 2.2 CFS
which would allow the discharge of the 10 year 24 Hour storm in 3.1 hours.
Considering these design changes we wish to have the total iron standard
re-evaluated for outfall 001.
IE there any =urther questions, I can be reachc•,I at q29-5911 or 556-6402.
Your rulyrz ,
-~~ /.~J~.zc,~lc
`Larry t.
