In the
previous plan, the applicant indicated that the company was in the process of filing an application for a plan
for augmentation with the Division 1 Water Court; however, you have indicated that the company has
reevaluated its plan and decided not to file a water court application at this time. This plan also includes
well permit no. 2104-F, which is used at the Barlow Pit batch plant, which is located less than one mile
east of the Barlow Pit. The required fee of $257 for the renewal of this substitute supply plan has been
submitted. The original supply plan was approved on January 13, 1992 and it was most recently approved
on August 12, 2005.
DEPLETIONS 8 CREDITS
Currently there are 11.4 acres of exposed ground water at the Barlow Pit site. This plan
anticipates a total of 35.75 acres of water surface will be exposed at the site in the future. Accordingly,
this plan proposes to make replacements of depletions from evaporation from 35.75 acres of exposed
ground water. Based on current assumptions to be described herein, the anticipated net depletions on an
yearly basis are 44.66 acre-feet, which consists of 34.42 acre-feet per year of evaporation from up to
35.75 acres of ground water exposed after December 31, 1980, 2.94 acre-feet per year of water lost in
100,000 tons of mined product and 7.31 acre-feet per year for operation of the batch plant well, permit no.
2104-F. The total lagged depletions are 44.73 acre-feet which is reflected in the attached Table 1.
As in the previous approval of August 12, 2005, pit site depletions were calculated using an
adjusted gross annual evaporation of 45.3 inches from the exposed water surface during non-snow-cover
periods and water lost in the mined product at 4% of production, with credits of 7.2 inches for effective
precipitation and 27.6 inches for pre-existing sub-irrigated alfalfa. The monthly depletions to the South
Platte River were lagged from the pit site using the AWAS program developed by the IDS Group at
Colorado State University. A transmissivity of 300,000 gallons per day per foot was used and a specific
yield of 0.2 was used.
