Ficura 1: Pier view of Gulch A pond s!~owing the completed por~J, )ecation
of emergency spillway, location of primary spillway ar~d dewatering device,
discharge flume, rip rap areas, access read for future dr_dging, and
cleaning pad for future dredging.
2. Figure 2: Cross sections of dam and emergency spillway. The cross section
locations are shown in Figure 1.
3. Fiqur= 3: Plan view of Gulch A Pond showing locations ''hat bentonite was
mixed with native soils to ensure stability.
4. Figure 4: Locations for compaction tests.
5. Table 1: Data su:rettarv for Gulch A Pond.
All specifications in the approved plan for the Gulch A Pond have been
met or exceeded as shown in the following data summary (Table 1). As shown in
the accompanying figures, the excavation was two feet deeper than originally
designed. Since an access road and cleaning pad for future dredging were added
to the structure during construction, a subsequent decrease in capacity t~rould
have occurred, so additional capacity was obtained by excavating two feet deeper.
In addition, the width of the emergency spillway was increased so the slope on
the sides of the spillway could be decreased to accommodate future truck traffic
from the cleaning pad. The cross sectional area of the emergency spillway
increased from 45 ft.2 to 52 ft.2.
