Burtis Limited Impa~10 Operations Permit Application
the site, cleaning the raw material, sorting and polishing in a shop. The total
amount of waste material generated would be less than 20 pounds per batch
in the form of a sand, which could be returned to the pit.
(m) Other than cleaning and sorting no processing is part of the operation.
There are no chemicals used in any part of the process.
(n) The principle commodity to be mined is gem quality Turquoise. In the
past materials were removed from the site by the City of Cripple Creek for
road building materials. There are no plans for this type of activity in the
future. Gold may be present with the Turquoise as an incidental mineral,
there are no plans to recover any of this low grade comodity.
(2) There are no tailings ponds or a milling process.
6.3.4 EXHIBIT D -RECLAMATION PLAN
(1) The overall reclamation plan would be to replace the excavated materials
back into the small pits at a slope that would be similar to the premining
surface, replace any recovered topsoil, and seed the area with an appropriate
seed mixture. The future land use would be the same as the current land use i.e..
rangeland.
(a) For this small an operation, as stated before, backfilling occurs at least
annually. Final reclamation would not be completed until the deposits are
depleted.
b) The gradient of the reclaimed slopes should match the premining slopes,
which range from flat to 3:1.
(c) Revegatation of the site would be with native species consistent with the
existing vegetation. Even though there would be little or no topsoil available
some vegetation may grow in the existing subsoil.
A typical seed mixture would be;
Species % Of
Mixture Lbs. PLS/ac. Bulk
lbs./ac.
Western Wheat ass 30 12.0 18.5
Streambank Wheat ass 20 5.7 6.4
Mammoth Wild rye or
(Russian Wild e) 20 5.8 (4.0) 7.2 (5.2)
Arizona Fescue 15 1.6 2.3
Meadow Brome or
(Smooth Brome) 15 8.3(4.0) 10.4(5.1)
Total 100 33.4 (27.3) 44.8 (37.5)
Page 12
