The site to be mined lies on a relict terrace formed by the <br /> historic occupation of the Arkansas River and its tributaries. Today, the <br /> stream lies approximately 0.56 miles to the north and approximately 80 feet <br /> or so lower in elevation. As the outslope of the terrace is <br /> approached, the local slope increases to around 10 percent, and averages <br /> about 40 percent on the terrace riser (outslope) to the County road where <br /> the land flattens out onto the surface of terrace level. <br />' Since the <br />t 40 feet <br />i <br />d t <br />de <br />ths of abo <br />Th <br />t <br />ill b <br /> . <br />e m <br />ne <br />o <br />p <br />u <br />errace w <br />e <br /> operation is well above the stream and adjacent flood plain, the operation <br /> will be dry. <br />' Runoff is limited to periods of snowmelt and intense summer storms. <br /> Runoff from the affected area occurs as overland flow and drains radially <br />' away from the upper surface of the site. On the northerly side of the <br /> runoff drains ultimately to Chandler Creek. Runoff from the <br />side <br />' , <br /> southerly side ultimately reaches Oak Creek. Both tributaries drain to the <br />' Arkansas River. <br />The potential for erosion appears to be relatively minimal -- there is <br />' no evidence that accelerated erosion, such as extensive gullying, has been <br />a historic problem. Each of the soil types existing on the site (refer to <br />Exhibit I - Soils Information) have been assigned a hydrological soil <br />grouping of 'A' or 'B'. Soils with a hydrologic grouping of 'A' have low <br />runoff potential and soils with a hydrologic grouping of 'B' have a <br />1 <br />1 <br />
