Price, Reclamation Specialist
Division of Minerals & Geology
Department of Natural Resources
Room 215
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: PIT WATER STORAGE IN KERR PONDS "A" & "B"
Dear Randy:
This is to verify that the approved plugs that were
installed in the discharge holes (outlets) of the stand pipes in
Kerr's Ponds "A" and "B" for temporary pit water (mine water)
storage were removed February 10, 1994. As planned, the retained
pit water was discharged from Pond "B" only as per Colorado
Department of Health ("CDH") requirements and pit water retained in
Pond "A" was pumped to Pond "B".
During the pumping process, ice surrounding the vertical
standpipes was broken free to avoid possible damage to the
standpipes during settling of the ice.
As you are aware, 20+ inches of ice covered the ponds.
Therefore, discharge from Pond "B" was accomplished by pumping.
Ice levels are now below the discharge holes (outlets) and the
ponds are ready to receive stormwater/snowmelt runoff.
On behalf of Kerr, I want to thank you and the Division
for your assistance and approval of using the ponds for temporary
pit water storage; it allowed Kerr to proceed with the 720 Pit
backfilling operations and to complete the contouring phase in a
timely manner without delay.
Sincerely,
~~~
rge Patterson
Mine Manager
GVP:tg
cc: James T.
