XSTABL was designed to analyze the slope stability of earth embankments
subjected to several critical situations that may occur during the life of the embankment.
For this project, six cases were identified as critical during the mining operation.
Case 1 - 104'h Avenue. The south permit boundary line of the site is adjacent to
104'h Avenue. An HS-20 loading with a 1.3 factor for impact was used to
simulate the traffic loads for this case. The proposed setback for mining is 45 feet
from the right-of--way line or approximately 85 feet from the roadway centerline.
There aze also several existing utilities and fences that pazallel the highway within
the right-of--way. The mining depth was assumed to be 29 feet in this azea based
on bore log information provided by Aggregate Industries -WCR, Inc. The
mining side slope in this location will be near vertical.
Case 2 -Adjacent Buildings. The mining operation is adjacent to existing
buildings along a portion of the south pennit boundary. The mining depth was
assumed to be 29 feet in this area based on bore log information provided by
Aggregate Industries -WCR, Inc. A conservative 3000 psf load was used to
simulate the building foundation loads for this case. The most critical building is
located approximately 5 feet from the property line. The proposed mining setback
was set 55 feet from the property line, allowing a 60 foot setback from the nearest
building. The mining side slope in this location will be near vertical.
Case 3 -Fulton Ditch and Bull Seep Realignment. The mining operation is
adjacent to the Fulton Ditch on the east side. The Bull Seep, which currently runs
across the property, will be relocated along this east side of the pit. The mining
depth was assumed to be 30 feet in this area based on, bore log information
provided by Aggregate Industries -WCR, Inc. It was assumed that the slurry
wall would be located 35 feet east of the mining limits and the edge of Bull Seep
would be and additional 10 feet east of the slurry wali. The Bull Seep will be
reconstructed 25 feet wide. The centerline was assumed to lie 27.5 feet west of the
property line. The proposed mining setback was set 85 feet from the property line.
The Fulton Ditch is located an additional 22 feet east of the property line and will
