JIATIf~ti.
f ~-~~. ~, ~ c r-)
,J <J i ~-~ C
~ l: l1C
This letter is a follow up to the phone notice that I gave you
last week concerning a water line break within our permit
boundary. Ute Water Conservancy District owns and maintains a
24" concrete water line over portions of our permit area. At
approximately 2:00 AM, February 28, 1990, their water line broke
approximately 200 feet east of the north fan portal. Their
operators were able to detect the leak immediately and remotely
shut down the line. The water from the broken line primarily
flowed down the drainage channel through the center of the North
Decline area (Exhibit 12B), but it also flowed into our sediment
No. 7. The result was erosion to ditches into and out of pond
No. 7 and an increase in the sediment level of the pond. Ute
Water pumped the pond down and will remove excess sediment when
the pond dries. Minor grading of tho 3itches may alsc be
necessary. The excavation and grading done during repairs to the
line should have little affect upon our operation.
Let me know if you need any further information.
Sincerely,
J~~~,~~~
Larrlp' M.
