Shuey, Reclamation Specialist
RE: Bulldog Mine Reclamation Proiect
Infiltration Trench Monitoring
December, 1998 Monthly Report
Dear Mr. Shuey:
Pursuant to the Technical Revision to the Reclamation Permit for the Bulldog Reclamation Project
pertaining to installation and operation of an infiltration trench to accommodate seepage from the 9360
adit, attached is a copy of the monthly monitoring data and associated water quality analyses. This is
the fourteenth monthly report as required under the approved TR.
We continue to control and manage seepage water emanating from the adit. Seepage flows were
directed into the infiltration trench at all times. Flow rates directed to the infiltration trench were below
the 30 gpm threshold, as noted in the attached summary table. Trench performance continues to meet
or exceed expectations. The two 121 vadose zone piezometers adjacent to the infiltration trench were
monitored per the Technical Revision conditions. Vadose zone water was not detected in the
piezometers nor was there evidence of surface water in the vicinity of the trench. Vadose zone
piezometer monitoring data is attached with other monitoring data for the trench and adit flows. One
water quality sample (12-98 Trench Inlet) was taken during the report period on December 4, 1998.
Analytical data are attached.
In addition, as part of this monthly report and in accordance with the 9360 Level Adit Closure Monitoring
Plan, dated April 1998, Windy Gulch monitoring was continued during this period. One water quality
sample 112-98 WGL Weir) was taken on December 4, 1998. Analytical data are attached. Minimal flow
was observed due to frozen conditions at the weir at the time of sampling. A visual estimate of less than
5 gpm through the existing weir was made at this time.
Thank you for your time and attention on this matter. If you have any questions, please contact me in
the San Francisco office.
Very Truly Yours,
~~~/~!~
cc: R. Cellan, Grants
F.
