INTRODUCTION ----------------------------------------------
On September 5 and 6, 1991, the North Thompson Creek mine
site (Permit Application C - 81 - 025) was visited and sampled
for cover only. The reclaimed mine surface is located within
Sections 34 and 35, T 8 S, R 89 W, 6th P.M. Sampling was
carried out by Matthew S. Hayes. For the purposes of this
study, the mine site was divided into four units to be sampled
separately. A minimum of ten samples were to be placed within
the Refuse Area, the Number 1 Mine Area, and the Number 3 Mine
Area. Within the Number 1 Mine New Fan Site, comparatively a
much smaller area (1.3 acres), a three sample minimum was set.
METHODS ---------------------------------------------------
Quantitative Sampling - General:
Sample locations were randomly chosen from within the
reclaimed area. The approximate locations of sample points
are designated on the enclosed map. Locations were randomly
selected from a 100 foot by 100 foot grid of each area. Cover
transects proceeded from marked sample locations in randomly
chosen directions. A minimum number of ten samples per major
reclamation area was set in consultation with Mr. Larry
Routten of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division.
1
