Benson Brothers Red Shale Pit <br />DMG 112 Application <br />Exhibit E- Reclamation Plan <br />Slope combinations proposed for this site are similaz and compatible with surrounding <br />conditions and land use, There will be no ponds left on site as part of the reclamation <br />plan. No slopes created by this operation will be steeper than 2:1. <br />The proposed reclamation is not for agricultural or horticultural crops. <br />We do not intend to backfiIl inert material from outside the permit azea. <br />Material handled on site will not create an unauthorized release of pollutants to the <br />surface drainage system. A Stormwater Discharge Permit for Gravel Mines will be <br />obtained from the Colorado Department of Health. <br />No Pollutants will be dischazged to groundwater on this site. <br />3.1.6 This is a dry pit. There will be no disturbance to the prevailing hydrologic balance. <br />There are no wetlands on this site. Topsoil and overburden stockpiles and berms will <br />be stabilized by broadcasting with a grass seed mix as recommended by the Natural <br />Resources Conservation Service, Delta Office. A Stormwater Discharge Permit for <br />Gravel Mines will be obtained from the Colorado Department of Health <br />3.1.7 We will not encounter any groundwater on this site. <br />3.1.8 This site would be expected to provide habitat for mule deer, elk, rabbits and birds. The <br />proposed site development is not expected to have a major adverse effect on the wildlife <br />present at or neaz the site. The area of the proposed development is small in relation to <br />the amount of similaz land that surrounds the site. <br />3.1.9 Topsoil will be removed and stockpiled in the process azea and on benches of <br />previously mined areas and protected from erosion by broadcasting with 28 Ibs/acre of <br />Tall Wheatgrass and Tall Fescue after October 15 as recommended by the NRCS Delta <br />Office. <br />Woody vegetation on this site cannot practicably be inwrporated into the topsoil. <br />We do not expect to have to move the topsoil stockpiles until it is used in reclamation. <br />Topsoil will be roughed in to eliminate slippage zones on grade surfaces. There is <br />minimal topsoil on the site, but there are no other materials on site that would support <br />vegetation. Topsoil will be placed and graded as evenly as possible and compacted <br />with the placing equipment. <br />Vegetative piles on this site will be removed or used as brush piles for wildlife habitat. <br />3.1.10 Vegetation on the property will be as recommended by NRCS Delta Field Office. <br />Seeding will be done by broadcasting at twice the rate recommended by NRCS. <br />Seeding will follow ripping of compacted azeas. Straw will be used as mulch at 200 <br />lbs/acre and crimped in place by tracked equipment. Re-vegetation will occur on all <br />areas of replaced topsoil. <br />The seed will be broadcast between October 25 and April 30 after ripping any <br />compacted areas. <br />Spraying according to an approved Delta County Weed Mitigation Plan will control <br />weeds. <br />The access and haul road established for this operation will be left in place for the land <br />owner's use after mining and reclamation are complete. These areas will not be re- <br />vegetated. <br />3.1.11 There are no buildings or structwes on this site and there are no structures planned in <br />conjunction with this operation. <br />3.1.12 The operator will post the required sign at the entrance to the mine. <br />The boundaries of the affected area will be delineated by existing fences or steel mazker <br />posts before mining begins. <br />
