<br />EXHIBIT B <br />6.3.2 <br />SITE DESCRIPTION <br />AVALANCHE CREEK MARBLE & ALABASTER LLC <br />WHITE BANKS MINE <br />6.3.2(a): Vegetation and Soil Charcteristics <br />The entire permit area consists of approximately 3.5 acres, a little more than'/a-mile east of Colorado <br />Highway 133 on White River National Forest Forest Development Road (FDR) 310. It can be <br />divided into two parts: a relatively flat ancient stream terrace and alluvial fan azea southwest of FDR <br />310, and a rocky hillside area with considerable exposed.bedrock northeast of FDR 310. <br />The area isjust south ofthe region included in the U.S. Department ofAgriculture Soil Conservation <br />Service SOIL SURVEY OFASPEN-GYPSUM AREA, COLORADO: PARTS OF EAGLE, GARFIELD, AND <br />PITK[N COUNTIES (1982). It is in an area that has been mapped by White River National Forest as <br />part of their forest resource inventory program. The following preliminary soil descriptions are <br />derived from Wright, Ron, 1995, SOIL AND ECOLOGICAL LAND UNIT SURVEY, WHITE RIVER <br />NATIONAL NATIONAL FOREST: U.S. Dept. Agriculture Inservice Draft Report: <br />TERRACE -ALLUVIAL FAN AREA SOUTHWEST OF FDR 310 <br />MAP UNIT: ] 09A -Subwell family, Endoaqolls association, 0 to 10 percent slopes. <br />[The permit azea is thought to contain only the Subwell portion of this map <br />unit; the Endoaquoll soils are immediately adjacent to and near grade with <br />streams and rivers and aze chazacterized by near saturation and the water table <br />within one foot of the surface, clearly not the case in the meadow area <br />southwest of FDR 310.] <br />ECOLOGICAL LAND UNIT: 109A -willows and sedges on lower montane, <br />valleys. <br />MAP UNIT SETTINGS <br />Landform: valleys <br />Parent material: alluvium <br />Geologic symbol: Qa <br />Elevation range: 7,000 to 9,000 ft <br />Aspect: all <br />Climatic zone: lower montane <br />Mean annual precipitation: 16 to 25 inches <br />Mean annual air temperature: 44 ° to 48 ° F <br />Average annual snowfall: ] 00 to 200 inches <br />
