Fencing - One dual break in a fence rill destroy its usefulness.
Gaeziag must be deferred for at least fro years after establishment;
fence maintenance is a must.
2. Mulching - the planting must be examined periodically to determine
if the mulehicg medium is intact. kulch is sometimes needed for
fro or three years after planting.
3. Weed control - Prepsring a Bite for reclamation planting also pre-
pares the site for competing and perhaps undesirable weed species.
Weed competition may prolong the establishment period.
4. Supplemental rater - If supplemental rater is used, maintenance of
the systems must be included in management.
5. Planting evaluation - Although not generally part of a post-estab-
lishmeat management{ian, all plantings should be evaluated to gain
information that would be useful in subsequent reclamation pro~ecta.
6. Reseeding -Area where seeding has fsiled because of weed takeover,
drought, blorout, overgrazing or nay other reason rill be reseeded.
Th• renovation area should be disked and reeds controlled, then re-
saeded rith the original seed min and mulched.
y. Proper Gracing Use - If the area is to be grazed, s ainimum of fro
yearn or until the stand is roll established is required. When
grazing. st least half of the current years grorth rill be left on
the area.
$. Soil tasting - Hoaitoring of the soil fertility la needed to insure
that enough plant nutrients are available for stand maintenance or
improvement.
9. Fertilization - Applfeation of fertilizer according to soil test
results rill insure stead mintemace.
10. ~Maiateaence of structural practices - Practices installed for erosion
control sad protection of areas rill be mintained to insure proper
operation and to extend the usefulness of the practice.
11. Correction and control of unforeseen problems - When ner problems
develop the situation rill be corrected or controlled na rapidly
as possible.
I '
r
