~_.. { .~,~~ s C°V of pCA 111111! 11111 111111 Seneca Coal Company July 27, 200o RECEIVED Colorado Department of Health JUL 31 2000 WQCD-PE-B2 4300 Cherry Creek Drive South OivisionofMineralsBGeology Denver, CO 80222-1530 RE: Quarterly Discharge Monitoring Report for Permit CO-0000221 Dear Sir or Madam: Pursuant to the quarterly reporting requirements contained in Colorado Discharge Permit CO-0000221 for the Seneca Mine Complex, enclosed find the second quarter 2000 discharge monitoring reports for Sites 002 to 006 and 008 to 017. In this quarter, discharges were observed every month at all points except Point 005 (no flow in June1; no discharges were noted at Points 009 and 011. Points 013, 014, 016, and 017 have not been constructed yet. No effluent limits were exceeded this quarter. Normal vehicle access to Point 015 (over one mile of dirt road) was restricted until May 22 due to snowpack and/or mud, weekly monitoring was not performed prior to May 22, however, monthly monitoring (via snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle) was performed prior to May 22. Due to an error at the laboratory, total suspended solids (TSS) values were not measured on samples collected on May 15 at Points 004, 008, and 012. This error was not noted until June 6. The cause of this error has been corrected. TSS values in April and June at these three sites were in compliance. Total settable solids values for these three sites on May 15 were all less than 0.4 ml/1. Please contact me at 970-276-5109 if you have any questions.
