2.05.3(8) Coal Processing Waste And Non-Coal Processing Waste
Coal processing waste az defined under Section 1.04 (24) waz generated at the Animaz/Helen
Mine Complex. The coal processing waste ("refuse") consists of rock, carbonaceous material,
and other impurities which were separated from the clean coal product by gravity separation
methods. The refuse material was disposed of in the refuse disposal area located in the
northwest portion of the Surface Facilities Area az shown on Map 12, Mine Site Water Systems
and Refuse Area.
The approved design for the refuse pile reflected placement of approximately 1,300,000 ry of
refuse material. Due [o early closure of the mine, only approximately 294,900 ry of refuse was
actually placed in the pile. The actual current configuration of the pile is shown on Map 12,
Mine Site Water System and Refuse Area Map. This material was placed in accordance with the
most recent approved design found in this section.

EFMC will use approximately 116,300 ry of the refuse material az backfill material to eliminate
the existing highwalls. The resulting final configuration of the refuse pile is shown on Figures
17-1 and 17-2.
With the exception of the backfilled portals, the highwall backfill area and refuse pile areas are
not underlain by any underground mine workings. Given that actual mine development
occurred some distance from the portal area and the direct support provided by the portal seals
and backfill, no significant settlement which could impact the refuse pile or backfill is
anticipated.
EFMC will conduct periodic visual inspettions for any subsidence related impacts. If any
subsidence related impacts are observed, EFMC will take immediate steps to repair any problem
areas.
C:\ W ORK~B56\856BTR U.RI
OJ/0 V946:J/pm 461R Revised -July 1994
