iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
SOMERSET MINING COMPANY
• STORM WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN
1. Description of Mining Activities
This is an active underground mining operation. Surface
facilities support the mining operation. Coal is delivered
to the surface by a conveyor belt from the underground mine.
On the surface, coal is either conveyed directly to the
crusher facility or to a coal stockpile. A front end loader
is used to work the coal stockpile. The coal from the
stockpile is loaded into trucks with the front end loader
and hauled to the crusher facility upon market demand. All
coal leaving the crusher facility is conveyed to the storage
silo. At present all the coal produced at the mine is being
hauled from the site by rail. Future plans are to haul a
small percentage of the coal produced from the site with
highway trucks which will be loaded with a front end loader
at the coal stockpile or from a loading bin near the crusher
facility.
Support buildings include an administrative office, shop and
warehouses. Mechanical work on the mining equipment is
performed at the shop facility. The warehouses contain an
inventory of equipment parts and supplies.
•~ The site boundary (permit area) encompasses 5529 acres. A
total of approximately 70 acres have been disturbed by the
coal mining operation.
The mine is located immediately north of the town of
Somerset, Colorado. State highway 133 is the transportation
route to the mine site.
2. Area Subiect to Effluent Limitations Guidelines
The area subject to effluent limitations guidelines is
nearly the entire disturbed area. The facilities,
structures and activities that occur within the disturbed
area include:
- office, shop and warehouses
- stockpiling of coal
- topsoil piles
- haul and access roads
- fuel and oil storage tanks
- exhaust fans
- coal silo and loadout facility
- coal conveyors
- coal crushing facility
- sediment ponds
• - collection ditches
