1
' 1988 ANNUAL HYDROLOGIC REPORT
' OCTOBBR 1987 THRU SEPTEMBER 1988
INTRODUCTION
' Snowmass completed reclamation of its North Thompson Creek Mines
during 1987. The No.l Mine was sealed during 1987 with the ex-
pectation that no water would discharge from it again. The No. 3
Mine was sealed, however pipes were placed in the lowest seal to
' allow water to drain from the mine.
As a result of a technical revision approved during 1987,
' hydrologic monitoring of the area has been reduced. Current
monitoring requirements are shown on pages 3-61 and 3-68 of the
Permit.

' This years report continues to use the same appendix numbers as
~ prior reports. There was no information collected this year Por
Appendices I and III which formerly contained climatological data
and creek flow data respectively.
SURFACB WATER QUALITY
'
Appendix II contains the hydrologic information gathered for
North Thompson Creek. Middle Thompson Creek is no longer
monitored. The quality information taken on North Thompson
t Creek, in May and September, is designed to monitor quality at
i
the approximate high and low flow.
' The quality of North Thompson Creek showed little variation as it
passed the mines this year. The No,l mine discharge to the Creek
began in August so its impact, if any, would be apparent in the
September 14th quality measurements, The September 14th sample
' was taken after a rainstorm which caused the Total Suspended
Solids to be quite high. The quality was generally near or bet-
' t ter than the pre-permit mean.
The September 14th sample was analyzed for copper to develop base
' line information since the No.l mine seepage is to be analyzed
for copper and other parameters beginning in June of 1989.
GROUND WATER QUALITY
' The results of monitoring wells D-lA and D-2A which are located
near the toe of the refuse pile are given in Appendix IV. D-lA
is directly below the refuse pile and D-2A is 200 feet to the
' west of D-lA. Prior years monitoring results were summarized by
quarter to make it comparable to the current monitoring schedule.
Graphs have been prepared which show quarterly water level and
' conductivity measurements for both wells.
