DOLORLS ~21VER FLOOD HAZARD REVIEV~` <br />October 2001 <br />13y <br />Colorado Water Conservation $oard <br />Introduction <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWC$) has received requests from a number <br />of entities regarding floodplain activities in the bolores River valley within Montezuma <br />County, Colorado. The requests generally relate to the CWC$ reviewing technical <br />information (floodplain informatiot) and associated flood risks for several gravel mining <br />pits within the river valley. The C~~'C$ is hereby responding to flood related questions <br />such as `-What is the bolores River floodplain far the reach upstream of bolores?" and <br />"Is the current floodplain information representative of conditions that exist today?" The <br />}ocations of the gravel pits in question ate referred to as Sites 1, 2,and 3, which are shown <br />on Map 1. Site ttumber 2 is also known as the Line Camp Gravel Pit. - <br />To gain background infvnnation on the individual sites in question, the CWCB staff held <br />discussions with interested parties, The interosted parties ara <br />Montezuma County elected officials and staff <br />• Colorado State Representakive Mark Larson <br />~+ John Liou, FEMA Region 8 <br />• Pat Kantor, Chairperson CFAR (Citizen for Accountability Fc Responsibility) <br />• James Preston, Attorney <br />• Ron Cattany, Colorado Department of Natural Resources, and <br />• Four States Aggregates (gravel mine operators) <br />In addition to the discussions, the Board's staff conducted an on-site field inspection of <br />the gravel operations on September 26, 2001. Individuals participants of the field <br />inspection are listed in Exhibit 1 (see Appendix). •. <br />In addition, the CWCB has received a significant number of written correspondence <br />items related to the gravel mining front Concern citizens, which are located in the bolores <br />l~i~~er Valley. A compilation of the information is presented in Attachment 1. <br />Tec},nica] Recietiv Request <br />In response to the technical request, CLVC13 is performing a review of the existing <br />designated and approved floodplain information and making a hydrologic and hydraulic <br />assessment of the existing data as it pertains to the individual gravel sites (1,3&3).
