• A main mine fan will be provided to exhaust air outside the mine. The
projected location of the mine fan is on the Drainage and Sediment
Control Plan Map (Map 6). Because of the compact nature of the
operation, this fan should provide adequate face ventilation such that
no auxiliary fans will be necessary to improve or supplement mine
ventilation.
Permanent stoppings will be erected between intake, return, and neutral
airways behind active working sections. They will direct and separate
intake, neutral, and return airflows. All inactive working areas that
are not being used for haulage, travel, air courses, or extraction of
coal will be sealed with explosion proof seals. In every sealed area,
one or more explosive proof seals will be fitted with a pipe and a valve
in order to permit air sampling and determine the pressure on the seals.
All permanent stoppings and seals will be made of fireproof materials,
such as cement blocks, cinder blocks, or galvanized steel and will be
constructed so as to minimize leakage.
• Temporary stoppings will be used in active working areas where frequent
changes in air flow may be necessary. They will be constructed of jute
fabric, urethane-coated jute, plastic, wrought lumber covered with
plastic or telescoping sheet metal sections. They will be installed so
as to minimize air leakage.
Overcasts will be used as necessary and will serve as an air bridge to
allow two air streams to cross without mixing. They will be constructed
of fireproof materials, such as concrete or steel. Where only small
volumes of air are involved, pipe overcasts will be constructed.
In order to prevent short circuiting, mine ventilation while passing
from one air course to the other, mine doors will be installed in•pairs
in certain areas to form an airlock.
C~
2.05-8
