• Equipment. The proposed machinery for the
equipped, maintained, and operated to
productivity, and quality of coal production.
Sunbelt operations will be
insure maximum safety,
All underground equipment will be approved by the Mine Safety and Health
Administration. The major underground and surface equipment to be
utilized is set forth in Table 6, Equipment List.
Room and Pillar Mining. Room and pillar mining will account for all the
total projected tonnage. This mining will be accomplished utilizing
a conventional mining system. The room and pillar mining cycle will
consist of coal removal from each entry and panel in a sequence
indicated on the Mine Plan Map (Map 8).
The mining cycle during development will consist of the following steps:
1. Extraction. In a conventional mining system, the coal is
• extracted in a sequence of operations, with special equipment
to execute each step. The coal face is undercut with a cutting
machine (which most nearly resembles a large chain saw on
wheels). The block of coal remaining is then drilled using a
mobile powered drill. The holes are loaded with explosives,
and the coal is dislodged.
2. Loading. The broken coal will be collected by gathering arms
at the base of the loading machine. These arms will then
direct the coal onto a conveyor which will discharge it into a
shuttle car.
3. Hauling and Dumping. The mined coal will be transported to a
load-out point and dumped into a feeder breaker. The feeder
breaker will even up the flow of coal, break any lumps larger
than 8 inches in diameter, and direct the stream of coal onto a
conveyor belt for transport out of the mine.

2.05-11
