ROBBI~NGS~O=
COMPANY
~®~
~~
184s ATest Dartaout3 Ave. Dever, Co 80110-1309
(303)783-3000 (800)477-9002 Faz(303)781-1816
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ROBINSON BRICK COMPANY
Robinson Brick Company was started by George W. Robinson in 1880. At that time,
brick was made by pouring soft mud into hand made molds and allowed to harden in the hot
Colorado sun. Through the early 1900s, plant sites were developed azound the Denver azea to
supply local markets. During the 1920s and 1930s, plants were consolidated, and contemporary
machinery and manufacturing methods were implemented.
In ]941, the Robinson Brick and Tile Company acquired property near the present
interchange of I-25 and Santa Fe Drive, and the first tunnel kiln in the Rocky Mountain Region
was built. After World Waz II, this plant developed a variety of high quality products in addition
to face brick such as glazed brick, pavers, thin glazed veneer, and structural glazed tile.
1962 marked the completion of the first phase of construction of the plant where
Robinson Brick Company is presently located. This plant which is situated at South Platte River
Drive and Dartmouth Avenue in Denver was designed primarily to manufacture face brick.
Despite the disastrous flood which swept through its yards and buildings in 1965, the plant
resumed production within weeks. In 1979 the production capacity of the plant was doubled. In
1984 the plant was modified further and its capacity again increased. The plant located at 500
South Santa Fe Drive was closed in 1984, and Robinson Brick Company began operating
exclusively from its present plant site.
r:~caova,+a~ro~,bc-e;.st~.pa
