LachheaA
Executive Direcmr
M¢hael R. Long
Division Oirecror
Thank yciu for your letter of comment regarding Agile Stone Systems, Inc.'s proposed Pazkdale
Project. I am the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology specialist reviewing the company's
application for a state mining Reclamation Permit, which is required by the Colorado Land
Reclamation Act for the Extraction of Construction Materials.
Some of the concerns you have about the project aze also concerns of our Division and we will be
asking the applicant to address them more satisfactorily in their application. These aze:
1. Blasting and its affects on the surrounding azea
2. Geotechnical stability of the quarry highwalls
Site reclamation
4. Structures for crossing Tallahassee Creek
5. Affects on surface and groundwater systems
You stated another concern about the acreage of their proposed permit azea and the azea to be
affected by mining. The applicant's state mining Reclamation Permit Application is for 513.2 acres,
of which 73.b acres aze proposed to be affected by extracting and processing granite, gravel, and
sandstone. Additional acreage will be affected by roads and rail lines. The application also shows
77.1 acres the operator may want to add to the gravel and granite extraction aeeas in the future. If a
permit is issued and the operator wants to add these areas to the permit as land to be affected, he
will have to do this by amending his permit which would require the same public notice and review
process as his present application.
~T- ATF dF COLORADO
Our Division has no jurisdiction over local government controlled land use issues such as the other
concerns you have about hours of operation and local traffic issues.
