• In addition to soils, water availability may influence the distribution
and density of vegetation within this type. Most of the permit area Is
~ L
located on~ eep terrain and is shaded, even during the summer
months, fa signiricant portions of the day. This may decrease
potential evaporatlan, providing relatively higher moLsture
availability in certain locationu, Including allowing slow melting of
snow in the winter and spring. This many accrount for the pronounced
microgeographic variation in vegetation density observed an the site
and the high density of mountain mahogany and gambol oak in some
locations.
;- No consistent variations within this vegetation community were ~
~~ observed which appeared to correlate with slope, aspect ar elevation.
.. Past management does not appear to have affected this vegetation
community, at least for many years. No evidence of livestock
grazing or timber harvesting was observed on the site.
•
4.
