Species diversity
Using the CMLRD-recommended method, the reclamation success standazd for species
diversity in the dryland pasture will be establishment of 2 cool season grasses, 1 warm
season grass, and either 1 perennial forb or 1 shrub. In addition, each of these species
must have a relative cover value between 3 percent and 60 percent. Seed mixes for the
dryland pasture are provided in Table 11. The rangeland/wildlife habitat will have the
same diversity standard as the dryland pasture. Seed mixes for the rangeland/wildlife
habitat are provided in Table 12.
For the irrigated pasture, the reclamation standard will be establishment of 3 cool season
grasses and 1 perennial forb. Again, each species must have a relative cover value
between 3 percent and 40 percent. The seed mix for the irrigated pasture is provided in
Table 13. The mix was determined using sampling data collected in the irrigated pasture
area.
Vegetation Cover
The vegetative cover standazd will be the same for all of the reclaimed vegetation types.
However, it will be calculated using the applicable reference area. The vegetative cover
standard for a reclaimed azea will be 90 percent of the reference area as sampled at the
time of revegetation success analysis (see Table 10).
Production
The production standard will also be the same for all of the reclaimed vegetation types.
Again, the standard will be determined using the reference areas. Production will be 90
percent of the reference area at the time of revegetation success analysis (see Table 10).
Shrub Density
As shown on Table 10, there is no shrub standard for the three vegetation types. The
shrub standard of 333 stems/acre which existed for the rangeland/wildlife habitat type
was eliminated through approval by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Habitat
enhancement of other areas in the National Forest will be conducted as an alternative to
attempting to establish shrubs on the reclaimed areas.
Noxious Weed Control
A noxious weed control program has been implemented at the Chimney Rock Mine. This
program will include an annual inspection during early summer, and if infestations are
observed, a spraying program will be conducted. Recommended spraying with 1.5 pints
Banvel and 3 quarts 24-D per acre, when Canada Thistle is in full bolt to 25 percent
bloom should control the infestation. Other sprays will be utilized as appropriate for other
noxious species. An annual report of the survey and actions taken will be submitted.
2.05-9 Revised 11/17/03
