• drainage or erosion control measures discussed previously. In addition, the haul road
constructed along the steep eastern slope of the Revision 1 Area will be reclaimed. A
terrace will be constructed from the intersection of Terrace No. 1 and the haul road around
the slope to the west.
A physical examination of core samples from drill holes showed that no material exists in
the overburden or interburden that would make them detrimental as a soil substitute or
plant medium. Also, no toxic or acid-forming materials have been encountered in
overburden and interburden sampling in the current mine area. No adverse impacts to the
water or soils resource is anticipated as a result of surface raining operations.
Sealin og f Exploration and Mine Holes
The measures to be used to plug, case or manage exploration holes other than bore holes,
wells and other opening within the permit area will include filling the hole or opening with
cuttings or inert material to the surface, cementing those holes which flow or might flow as
a result of any possible artesian conditions, and casing or cementing any holes which
penetrate the aquifer with significant groundwater quality and quantity.
Those holes which remain open for use as a water supply well or for use as groundwater
monitoring sources are completed with casing or piezometers at a sufficient height above the
ground surface to prevent drainage of surface water of introduction of foreign material into
• the well. All such monitoring points are equipped with caps to prevent the introduction of
objects other than groundwater monitoring equipment. Water wells utilized as ground water
monitoring consist of domestic deep wells and shallow alluvial valley floor wells. The
domestic wells will obviously remain intact upon the cessation of operations while the
shallow wells will be removed. If actual removal of the wells is not possible, the cases will
be backfilled with bentonite and the well heads will be removed.
Reve etg ation
After soil replacement has been completed, the area will be seeded. This will be done using
a seed drill, hand broadcaster, by hydroseeding, or by the use of other appropriate
mechanized methods (e.g., steep slope seeder). Where hand broadcasting is used, the site
will be raked or harrowed following seeding in order to cover the seed.
Soil amendments will be determined by a nutrient analysis (i.e. N, P, K, pH, Ca, Mg, and
Na) of the stored soil material just prior to distribution of these materials on the graded
areas. Fertilizer will be applied only in accordance with the results of the nutrient analysis
tests and after it has been determined that vegetative success cannot otherwise be achieved
without the use of such fertilizer amendments. Fertilizer will be applied by broadcasting and
raking or by post-emergence broad-cast techniques.
• 2.05-5
