-2-
All volumes in Table 1 were calculated by a block model method.
Attached for your review is Colowyo's computer generated block model and printout
of volumetrics.
You wild note from Figure 3 that a bentonite mix was incorporated into
construction in_certain locations. Bentonite was added to the bottom of the key
cut due to intercepting wet and soft conditions at the bottom. Bentonite was
added along the inside face of the dam up to the elevation of the dewatering
device to ensure a tight seal along the face where water would likely occupy
volume on a frequent basis.
At the request of the Division, several compaction tests were run.
The results of the tests indicated the structure was compacted well beyond the
required minimum of 90%. The face of the outslope of the dam was rip rapped to
prevent any potential flood water erosion by Good Spring Creek'. '
The access road into the pond was constructed with gravel laid down in
one 0.5 foot lift. The construction traffic beat the gravel into the ground to
approximately ground level. In the event Goad Spring Creek rises out of its
bank, the access road into Gulch A Pond will not impound sheet,, flow produced by
Good Spring Creek.
If you have any questions, or require additional information far, Gulch
A Pond, please call at your convenience.
Sincerely,
COLOWYO COAL COMPANY
Y
i
~"
Ed Moyer ~
Geologist/Reclamation Specialist
ETM/yml
Enclosures
cc: R.G.
