-1-
. KERR MINE AUGMENTATION PLAN
NORTH PARK, COLORADO
INTRODUCTION
This report describes the use and consumptive use of water
at the Kerr Coal Mine, located in North Park, Colorado,
approximately 8 miles east of Walden, Colorado in Jackson
County. The general location of the mine is shown in Figure
1. The mines consist of two parts: 1) an existing operation
located in parts of Sections 25, 26 and 35 of Township 9
North, Range 78 West, 6th Principal Meridian and parts of
Section 2, Township 8 North, Range 78 West, 6th Principal
Meridian; and 2) an expansion of the mine into parts of
Sections 15, 22, 23, 26 and 27 of Township 9 North, Range
78 West, 6th Principal Meridian.
• The Kerr Mine is located in the Canadian River Basin. The
mine property includes approximately 2,000 acres which
cover portions of several small intermittent tributaries
including Sudduth, Williams, Bush and Bolton Draws. Water
use will occur on the mine property with the exception of a
minor amount of dust control usage at the tipple located
due south of Walden. The majority of the potential impact
of Kerr Coal's mining operations on existing water rights
will occur on the intermittent tributaries named above and
on the Canadian River downstream from the confluence of
these tributaries and the river.
A small amount of water use will occur at the mine tipple,
located in Walden, Colorado. The tipple is approximately 8
miles to the west of the mine property. Coal will be hauled
to the tipple by trucks and stored prior to being loaded on
trains. The water use at the mine tipple will he limited
• entirely to dust suppression.
Leonard Rice Consulting Waler Engineers.lnc
