Drawer L <br />Fruita, Colorado 61521 <br />Dear Mr. Walters: <br />February 18, 1985 <br />RE: Probable Hydrologic Consequences of the water inflow <br />into the McClane Canyon Mine, McClane Canyon Mine <br />Permit Renewal, Garfield County, Colorado. <br />By a letter from the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation <br />Division (MLRD) dated December 11, 1984, the Salt Creek Mining <br />Company (Salt Creek) has been requested to submit a revision of <br />the original statement of probable hydrologic consequences for <br />the McClane Canyon mine. <br />. Salt Creek contracted Hydro-Geo Consultants to visit the <br />underground mine, review the available data pertinent to the <br />monitoring of quantity and quality of water flowing into and <br />discharged from the mine, and to address the probable hydrologic <br />consequences of the water inflow into the McClane Canyon mine. <br />Mine Histo <br />The McClane mine visit took place on February 6, 1985. <br />During this visit Mr. Straskraba was accompanyed by Mr. J. <br />Walters and a presentation of the detailed history of the mining <br />and water occurence in the mine was given. <br />The McClane mine was opened by driving five (5) mains toward <br />the east. After reaching a fault oriented northeast-southwest <br />with an approximate vertical displacement of 93 feet, the mine <br />progressed with 6 entries toward the northeast. A two entry <br />probe was driven along the fault approximately 500 feet toward <br />the southwest. The east mains and a small part of the north <br />entries were driven in the lower part of the Cameo seam. At <br />approximately the fifth crosscut on the north entries mining <br />gradually reached the upper part of the coal seam. Driving of <br />the north entries were stopped in December, 1982 at a distance of <br />1,700 feet from the east mains. <br />• The roof and floor stability within the mine is generally <br />good and the mine is well maintained. A substantial roof fall is <br />present between 1-14 and 1-15 north. From the 14th crosscut of <br />the north entries, side bolting has been applied to improve rib <br />stability. The coal seam has a well developed main cleat and the <br />f'.~ ~ ~ ~~~~~ <br />
