iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
C crpRUs
~ Yampa Valley
July 25, 1991
~~~~~~~~
Tony Waldron, Reclamation Specialist
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division ~~~ 2 9 1991
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 Mined fan
Denver, CO 80203-2273 Reclamatipn pi ~sip~
Dear Mr. Waldron:
Re: Grazing on Mines 1. 2. and Eckman Park 1991: Permit C-81-071
This letter is to notify the Division of the planned grazing schedule for the above-referenced
permit during 1991. As previously discussed, the Mine 2 area, and Lower Area 51 are
scheduled for grazing during [he 1991 season. Pazcels which require sampling will be monitored
prior to grazing taking place in these areas. Area 1 is scheduled to be rested this year, but
should water become critical CYCC reserves the option to allow grazing in this area. Parcels
which are less than 4 years old are not scheduled to be grazed; this includes all 1988 channel
repair areas in Area 51. The Mine 2 area will continue to be grazed as previously approved in
TR 87-20, supporting some 800 head of steers for approximately 28 days in both spring and fall.
On the basis of data collected from the Lower Area 51 Grazing area (composed of some 198
acres, 97 of which are reclamation), the calculated forage available for grazing at 50%
utilization is 210,192 pounds. Divide this value by 6401bs/AUM for steers, and the lower Area
51 shows capacity to support some 328 AUM's of grazing, or approximately 100 head of steers
for 90 days. As such, Lower Area 51 should easily support the anticipated 75 head of steers
for the approximately 60 days of grazing planned for 1991.
As you can see, this initial stocking rate is extremely conservative in view of the production data
obtained eazlier this year. An 8'fz" X 11" location map of the Lower Area 51 grazing has been
included for your reference.
Should you have any questions, please contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Marcus A.
