Discharges occurred at ponds 7 and 8. None of the other facilities discharged
during the quarter. The Mine is requesting the application of Alternate Limitations (for
events less than or equal to the 10-year, 24-hour precipitation event) for "folal Iron and
Total Suspended Solids for the sample events as detailed below.
Intermittent rainfall during the week of August 24-30, 2003 resulted in a pond discharge
being observed and sampled on August 29, 2003 al pond 8. Rainfall of 1.0" was recorded
at the mine site the afternoon of the discharge of discharge. (The l0yr-24hr event is 2.9")
Discharge from a 1.25" rainfall event at the Mine on September 4, 2003 was sampled on
September 5. Laboratory analysis indicated vi exceedcnce of both Total Iron and 'Ibtal
Suspended Solids from both facilities.
The ponds were in good working order prior to the event Sediment was removed liom
Pond 7 in December of 2002. Both ponds 7 & 8 were surveyed for sediment
accumulation in March of 2003. The survey indicated that the ponds were within design
capacity at time of survey.
