Carter I~Cr(=~~''-~
Environmental Protection Specialist
state of Colorado ftg p 3199f
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver CO 80203
RE: Safety Culvert
Permit No. C-81-022
Dear Mr. Carter:
As we discussed by telephone today, our safety director has
requested a culvert be placed in collection ditch CD-2 next to
conveyor drive number 4 along the road to the Sanborn Creek Mine
portal, and removal of the siding on the conveyor drive number 4
building. This narrow section of road, indicated on the attached
portion of Drawing Number 5-002, has been the site of a head-on
collision between mine vehicles.
From pages B-93 and B-94, Appendix B, Volume 7 of the Permit
Application, the design flow for collection ditch CD-2 is 17.81
cfs. A 30-inch cmp culvert has a flow capacity of 19 cfs at zero
head. We plan to install the culvert and cover it with road base
to provide a wider road at the indicated location. We also plan to
remove the siding from three sides of the drive building to improve
the site distance around this corner.
Also, since we have installed the berm along the secondary access
to the mine site along the abandoned portion of Old State Highway
133, as discussed with you previously, we plan on removing some of
the large rocks along the road to increase the width. The large
rocks were placed there during relocation of the railroad prior to
the opening of the Sanborn Creek Mine. A local contractor has
approached the mine for use of the rock as rip-rap material for
projects off-site and unrelated to the mine activity.
Please call if you have questions, or require additional
information.
Thomas C.
