Hernandez, Senior Reclamation Specialist
FROM: George D. VanSlywe, Supervising Geologist r',,_/
Division of Water Resources `,
SUBJECT: Zftk: Gravel Pit, File No. M-91-146, Section 2, T44N, RBW,
New Mexico P.M.
Water Division 4, Water District 68
VJe have reviev+ed the above referenced mining permit application per
your request of December 19, 1991. The application is to conduct
surface mining and reclamation. The review shows that it is
anticipated that the pit will not intercept groundwater even though
it is located next to the Uncompahgre River which is an over-
appropriated stream. The reclamation plan calls returning the area
to its natural state. Test pits and trenches were dug to see if
groundwater would be encountered. All these er,caa~ations a+ere dry
ate the time ofi excavation.
While we can recommend approval of this operation, we must advise
that should groundwater be exposed t^ the atmosphere, the operator
must obtain a valid well permit from the Office of the State
Engineer and a substitute supply plan or plan for augmer~tation
prior to beginning operation.
Please contact this office if you have any additional questions.
cc: k:eith k:epler, Division Engineer
Roger fJoble, Water Commissioner
