In this quarter, no
discharges occurred at Points 005, 009, 011, 014 and 015. Weekly
monitoring at Points 015 and 016 was discontinued after November
21 due to deep snow that prohibited vehicle access. Monthly
monitoring at 015 and 016 was performed by snowmobile. Points 013
and 017 have not been constructed yet. Construction of Pond 014
was completed in September 2001, no discharge has occurred yet.
Point 012 experienced an excursion of the 30-day average .total
suspended solids (TSS) limit of 35 mg/1 with a value of 60 mg/1
measured from a sample collected October 11. A retest that
sample performed on December 3 resulted in a measured TSS value
of only 8 mg/1 (see attachment). Also, this sampling event
occurred wit in 48 ouh rs after a inc rain a~event-rrss"
than 10 year/24 hour rainfall event), and therefore the alternate
limit (settleable solids 0.5 ml/1) should apply. Settleable
solids on the October 11 sample was less than 0.4 ml/1. A copy of
the rainfall chart from the Seneca lA Site (4.7 miles from Point
012) has been attached. On this chart, vertical divisions are
0.05 inches, horizontal divisions are 8 hours, and the days of
the month are displayed at the bottom.
Please contact me at 970-276-5109 if you have any questions.
cc:
Sincerely,
~~SL~..w~ C9.-
Dennis Jones
Hydrologist I
Division of Minerals and Geology
Seneca Coal Company P.O.
