Cotter Corporation Water Quality Assessment CO-0036251
Zinc: Zinc is also potentially present in the mine water discharge from the Cotter Corporation
mines. There are no in-stream standards for zinc that are applicable to the unnamed tributaries to
East Paradox Creek and Bul] Canyon or to East Paaadox Creek and Bull Canyon themselves. Thus,
the in-stream standazds for zinc that aze applied at the Dolores River were evaluated.
Using the mass-balance equation provided in the beginning of Section N, the combined design flow
of the two outfalls, the low flows provided in Section III for the Dolores River, the background
concentrations contained in Section II, and the in-stream standards for metals shown in Section II,
assimilative capacities were calculated. The data used and the resulting calculations of the allowable
discharge concentrations, MZ, aze set forth in Table A-9 for chronic assimilative capacities and in
Table A-10 for acute assimilative capacities.
Table A-9
Chronic Assimilative Ca acities for Pollutants of Concern
Parpi»ieter~ ,~~~~~ f~ c s
(
f)
-
Q a ~~" "'
Q
~~
(~ ~}~ ~;
Q
(~s) s~' r
~~ +' ~. j~ ``
M `~td~ ~~r
M
t `1Votes
~,~, ~~
a_r.. ,.. - r ,
,.
~zf.
r
__ . . ~
~z
.
~ 3~.
- ~
r ~, ~rs~
~ ::~r~
a~uw
_ _ En
~.~,. _:~
Zn, Dis (ug/1) 25 0.69 25.69 1.4 209 7,731
Table A-10
Parhineter~~~,'~~~
~trxxt a-.a~-...~T, ., 4F~w..- .~ ~,Q z~(~.ls) ~
3 2 °' i (~eJ"s):
.~ r.~.+.. .,. ~Q 3'~`~(d.1s)~
~ a... _. ~,~hlF~ ~>
.a ..
..
