COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT, Water Quality Conn•o1 Division
Rationale -Page 10, Permit No. CO-0036251
VIIL PUBLIC NOTICE COMMENTS
During the public notice period, two comments were received in writing front the permittee. One was a request to correct the
contact name and an address for the company. This con•ection was made in the rationale, and some editorial
changes/corrections were made in the permit. A summary of the second comment and the Division's response is provided
below.
Comment: Cotter Corporation noted that total Radium 2161imit is limited at /0.0 pCi/1 fora 30-day maximum, but the Radium
226 +228 combined limn is set at only 5.0 pCi/1 fora 30-day maximum. In the commenter's opinion, if tl:e
maximum limit for a single parameter (Ra-226 total) is set at l0.0 pCi/1, then the combined limit of Radium 226 +
228 should be set at 10.0 pCi/l, not less than the single parameter. Therefore, Cotter Corporation requested that the
daily maximum limit for Radium 226 plus 218 be left at the current permitted level of 10.0 pCi/l.
Response: The Division is amenable to this request, and to be consistent with the previous permit, has re-established a Daily
Maximum limit for Radium 226 +218 of 10 pCi/1.
Jo Anre Cerken
December 20, 2002
