4-87 <br />• No soils are rated poor for coarse fragments. <br />4.7.6 Present and Potential Uses <br />4.7.6.1 Crops and Pasturelands <br />The SCS has made prime farmland determinations in Garfield <br />County and a map has been published (USDA-SCS, 1979); no <br />V <br />prime farmlands were delineated in the permit area. A .•,~~ <br />~r <br />written negative determination has been requested from the <br />SCS but has not yet been received. <br />None of the soils of the site are presently irrigated, but <br />the Havre and Glendive (HvAB and GdAB) map units have been <br />cultivated in the past. No information is available on <br />• previous crops. <br />4.7.6.2 Rangelands <br />The soils of the site area have been used as rangeland in <br />the past. Predicted forage production for rangeland soils <br />during favorable, normal, and unfavorable years for various <br />sites are given in Table 4.7-3, which is based on generalized <br />SCS data (Soil Interpretation Records). Capability classes for <br />the rangeland soils are (dryland'sites) III, IV, or VI. The <br />principal limitaion is ero ~ on (e). Few soils are limited <br />by wetness (w) or climate (c). Soils in capability classes <br />III and IV have severe limitations that reduce the choice <br />of plants, require special or very careful conservation <br />• <br />
