2
1940 - 1989 at the Franktown, CO gage. We recently ordered more aerial photos
of the site. These photos, which will also be interpreted, include the years
1978, 1985, 1989, and 1990. We will enter all of this information into a
Geographical Information System (GIS) on a recently purchased Sun workstation.
Buck Samford, a professor in the department of biology at the University of
Denver, and his students, visited the site in April. We gave them a tour
through Transect 3 and demonstrated how we take ground water measurements.
Buck appeared to be quite interested in our work and mentioned the possibility
of conaluctin9 soil analysis work for us.
Plans: We will continue monitoring the fifteen ground water wells twice
monthly in addition to taking photos at our permanent photo points en a
regular basis. We will also resurvey the transect belts and traverse survey
the four transects to tie them all together. Since the majority of the flows
occur when we are not present, we hope to camp at the site for several nights
so we can acquire additional flow data.
Exoenditures: We have billed you for the full amount of (3,000 to eliminate
any con usion at the end of the fiscal year. Due to our interest in the
study, FWS will absorb any additional costs.
In-kind services provided by the Fish and Wildlife Service to the cottonwood
monitoring project include:
1.
