AC[QdOWi~IDGPgNiS
Mitigative excavations at site SKP139 were wnducted according to the
tears of a contract between Seneca Coals Ltd., of Deaver, Colorado,
and Nickens and Associates. Dr. Paul R. Nickens served as Principal
Investigator and Gordon C. Yorker, Jr. widestaolc responsibility for
directing the fieldwork and analyses.
Stringent time restrictions had been placed upon the project at the
outset: 14 days were allotted for artq~letion of the work, 7 days each
for excavations and monitoring of topsoil removal. These restrictions
translate to mean that we had a small amount of time to complete a lot
of work. Cooperation between the leader anti the makers of the crew
was therefore vital.
• I would like to thank sincerely Igor Steel, George Gerstle, and Kathy
Tucker for their cooperation and their willingness to work long hours
under not-so-optimum conditions to insure that the job was done quickly
and ¢editably. Without this support my job would have been immeasurably
more difficult.
Tom Wainwright, I;nvinuanent IIzgineer for Seneca Coal, Ltd., and Project
Manager, was extremely helpful in providing various kinds of infoanation
that was necessary to the oanpilation of the report. Don Zu1ian,
Supervisor of the Seneca II mine, was quite cooperative and provided
assistance in many ways,. not the least of which was to allay us to use
the hot showers at the mine headquarters. Bud Zabel, heavy ecluig~it
operator, with his many years of experience on a motor grader, insured
that the topsoil was raroved with m;n;ma1 disturbance to cultural mani-
festations and made the monitoring job easier. Bud's cheerfulness and
interest in our work is also appreciated.
• Susan O'Connell, Staff Illustrator for Nickens and Associates, did a
marvelous job of transfoaning field sketches into impressive illustrations
