BMP'S FOR RUNOFF COLL~ION • <br />Itl.6 Corrugated Metal Culverts <br />Purpose: Corrugated metal culverts are used to remove water from <br />roadways. They can also be used to divert water around areas or <br />structures. <br />Application: Corrugated metal culverts are permanent water conveyance <br />structures that can be used on all types of roadways. <br />Specrficattons: (See Figure Ill-6) <br />1. Culverts should be long enough to reach across the roadway and <br />extend beyond the till slope. )n addition, culvert outlets must have <br />erosion control structures installed below them to prevent erosion. <br />2. When installed to convey a stream under a roadway, they should <br />be large enough to carry the maximum stream volume as well as <br />any additional seasonal runoff. PJOte: Culvert size should comply <br />with the Idaho Department of Water Resources requirements. <br />(See Appendix A) <br />3. Install the culvert to firm, compacted sou with a minimum cover of <br />twelve (12) inches of soil. <br />Maintenance: Culverts need to be inspected on a regular basis.
