The following information is from the
directives given to me by the U.S. Forest Service.
Recommended Seed Mix
South Park Ranger District
Pike National Forest
Following completing of drilling, eeploration or m;n;ng in an area, the Qperator
shall seed and fertilize (if necessary) exposed soils. All areas shall be
recontoured to provide satisfactory control of soil movement. Leave soils in
a roughened condition so as to hold moisture. Mulching of seeded areas may be
necessary and will be determined by the Forest Officer.
Seed shall be applied at the rate of 13 lbs. per acre. When fertilizer and seed
are applied in separate operations, the second operation shall be completed
within 72 hours of the first. Seeding on snow in fall is encouraged, however no
application work shall be done in extremely windy or rainy weather, or when the
ground is frozen or otherwise unsuitable.
Lower elevation Seed Mic (8000-10,000 feet)
Species of Seed
Pounds per Acre
Pubescent Wheatgrass 3
Hard Fescue or Red Fescue 2
Smooth Bromegrass (Manchar) 3
Fall Rye (Cougar) 4
Yellow Sweet Clover (innoculated seed only) 1
Total: 13 lbs./acre
Fertilizer: When used, shall be applied at a rate of 200 lbs./acre
with an analysis of 25-10-7 or similar.
The Operator has discussed possibly meeting with the U.S. Conservation Service
representative from the Teller-Park County district on the subject sites for his
recommendations when the snow is out and access to the sites is possible.
4b. At the time of backfilling/grading of a mining site the compaction accomplished
by the machine doing the backfilling (usually a crawler type tractor with a
toothed front end loader bucket) will be mini-contour grooved with the teeth of
the loader bucket held in the vertical position while back-dragging the site.
