Mineral mining and processing point source category - 40 !'FR 436 - subparts E (gypsum), F (asphaltic
mineral), G (asbestos and woflastonite), J (barite), K (fluorspar), L (salines from brine lakes), M (borax), N
{potash), O (sodium sulfate), V (bentonite), W (magrtesite), X (diatomite), Y (jade), Z (novaculite), AF
(tripoli), and asphalt batch plants located at any facility otherwise covered by this general permit:
No monitoring is required (unless specified by the Division). An annual report to the Division on whether or
not a discharge of process water has taken place at the facility is required (see Part I.D.3.b of the permit).
4. Flow Measurirra Device
If not already a part of the permitted facility, within ninety (90) days after Ne effective date of the certification, a
flow measuring device shall be installed to give representative values of effluent quantities at the respective discharge
point. A flow maec~~ring device will be applicable at all desigmted discharge points of process water. The flow
may also be determined by using the pump capacity multiplied by the length of time the pump is operated, provided
that the accuracy requirement (sx below) is met.
When the facility is not opereting, and no discharge is occurring (e.g., if it is shut down for the winter), a Flow
measuring device is not required to be on site.
At Ute request of the Water Quality Control Division, or the Environmental Protection Agency, the permittee shall
show proof of the accuracy of any flow-measuring device used in obtaining data submitted in the monitoring report.
The flow-measuring device must indicate values within ten (10) percent of the actual flow being discharged.
C. EFFLUEN'T' LIMITATIONS AND COND111ONS - STORMWATER DISCHARGE
(This section (I.C) applies to all facilities with a discharge of stormwater.)
Genera] Limitations
a. Stormwater discharges from the industrial activity shell not cause or threaten to cause pollution, contamination
or degradation of any State waters.
b. There shall be no discharge of sanitary waste waters firm toilets or related facilities.
c. No chemicals ate to be added to the discharge unless permission for the use of a spxific chemical is granted
by the permit issuing authority. In granting the use of such chemicals, additional limitations and monitoring
requirements may be imposed.
d. Bulk storage stntctures for petroleum products and other chemicals shall have adequate protxtion so as to
prevent any reasonable loss of the material from entering discharged waters or waters of the State.
