SIMPSON, CHIEF, WATER MANAGEMENT BRANCH <br /> SUBJECT: FLATIRON PAVING COMPANY - NELSON PIT, BOULDER COUNTY, <br /> APPLICATION FOR MINING AND RECLAMATION PERMIT <br /> As requested by your office, we have reviewed the application for a gravel <br /> pit near Longmont. We cannot recommend approval of the application until <br /> the applicant has provided the following additional information: <br /> 1 , Exhibit E, page E-5, states that the haul road will be <br /> treated to minimize dust problems and that processed <br /> materials will be sprayed during the crushing and con- <br /> veying of the materials. However, the report does not <br /> provide any information regarding the amount or source <br /> of the water that will be used for these mitigating meas- <br /> ures. (If the applicant plans to use pit water, which is <br /> ground water, for these mitigating measures, then the <br /> utilization of this ground water is considered a benefi- <br /> cial use which would be in violation of the 1973 Colorado <br /> Revised Statutes, 37-90-137, since the applicant does <br /> not currently have a permit to use ground water. ) <br /> 2, Exhibit G includes an analysis of the consumptive use <br /> of pasture grass in the project area using the Blaney- <br /> Criddle method. It is not clear why 100 acres of pasture <br /> grass was used when the lake area is 82 acres. Also, <br /> the analysis used 19. 35" per year for the consumptive <br />
