Intermittent discharges were observed at Points
005, 013 and 014. No discharge occurred at Point 009.
Due to winter snow, vehicle access to Points 004, 008, 009, 015, 016
and 017 was closed until May. Monthly visits in April were performed
by snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle or on foot.
One excursion of effluent limits occurred this quarter at Point 014. A
sample collected on April 2 had a TSS value of 42 mg/1. The effluent
limits are 35 mg/1 (monthly average) and 70 mg/1 (daily max.). The
sample was collected during snowmelt runoff, and therefore, an
alternate of the TSS limit ("report") is allowed for in our permit
(Part I.A.1, pg. 10). Attached are the snowpack report for the nearest
NRCS Snotel site, Crosho, and monthly reports for March and April at
the NOAA weather station in Hayden, Colorado. Both reports indicate
that snowmelt was occurring at the time of the excursion.
Please contact me at 970-276-5209 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Dennis ones
Hydrologist I
~: Mr. Michael Boulay
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203-2273
Seneca Coal Company • P.O.
