The following addresses some
concerns identified during this review. Most of these items were discussed
during a telephone conversation on December 1, 1987 between Cathy Begej and
Jim Schlenvogt.
1. We request that the pond certifications be resubmitted to more
closely follow the enclosed "Policy on Professional Certification"
dated July 13, 1984. Such a re submittal will allow for better
documentation of these ponds' certifications.
When addressing points 5 and 7 of the policy memorandum, please
discuss the hydrologic consequences of any discrepancies between
the designed plan and the constructed impoundment.
2. Please discuss the differences in impoundment volume and embankment
height between the designed plan as-built for Pond No. 008.
3. Please discuss the consequences of the smaller diameter principal
spillway for Pond No. 005.
4. During the aforementioned telephone conversation, Mr. Schlenvogt
stated he was planning on surveying Pond No. 008 in early fall,
1988 to access the stability of the embankment. Peabody should
commit to sending the results of this survey to the Division by
November 30, 1988.
423 Centennial Building, 1373 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
