~~''J .Arthui N. Christensen • ~ -2- • May 25, 1979
a
~ _
' 3. ~Small water catchments and ponds should be created on the reclaimed areas.
These would provide drinking water for wildlife, create variety in the vege-
tative ground cover, improve soil moisture conditions in close proximity to
the ponds, reduce erosion and trap silt.
4. Moderate forb growth is desirable as a seed source for both songbirds and
small mammals. In fact, it would be desirable to include sunflower seeds in
the revegetation mixture. Some amount of seed producing annuals should be
encouraged.
5. Livestock should be fenced off of all reclaimed areas to allow maximum re-
growth and reduce competition with wildlife.
I hope these comments are helpful. If you have any questions feel free to call
me.
Sincerely,
V
ack Vayhi er
ildlife B logist
JV:km
cc: Jim Dennis
Chuck Grand Pre
