• III III III IIIIIIIIII • (ENGINEERS' COMMENTS)
~„ .
r„ CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY
Application No. 77-211
Pikeview Ouarr
Information Furnished Per Staff Questions {Letter of April 12, 1979):
A. MINING PLAN
Question 111: What quantity of topsoil will be salvaged from the yet
unaffected areas of the mine?
Comment: Castle Concrete Company is hoping to salvage at least 25,000
cubic yards of topsoil from the remaining (moderately disturbed) areas of
the mine. The "unaffected" area is 53 acres of land which has been only
moderately disturbed.
Question 112: What quantity of topsoil, if any, was salvaged from areas
already affected by mining and where has this soil been stockpiled?
Comment: The "native" topsoil is comparatively thin. Castle Concrete
has done little work in areas which were not already affected prior to
Castle's acquisition of the property. What little topsoil that has been
removed was mixed with the material used in building one of the interior
mining roads. This "topsoil" contained a considerable quantity of large
cobbles and was determined unsuitable for topsoil cover.
Question 113: Identify the areas of the mine affected since July 1, 1976, as
this is the area of already affected land that will be included in the permit.
Comment: Mining operations have continued since July 1, 1976, in that area
previously described as the 134 acres of previously disturbed land. Only
134 acres of land will be disturbed by the mining operation and only 134
acres of land should be included in the mining permit. There is approximately
53 acres of land within the 134 acres which has been only moderately disturbed;
the remaining 81 acres have been totally denuded for many years by prior
extractors.
Question 114: A mining timetable that clearly indicates when each Cract
will be mined and the estimated duration of mining in each tract.
Comment: We have attached a Revised Mining Timetable based upon the
134 acres of disturbed land being divided into 4 tracts. (See Attachment
No. 3) The revised timetable and duration in each tract is based upon the
1
