O'Brian
9989 19est 60th Avenue
Arvada, Colorado 80004
Dear Mr. O'Brian:

January 12, 1979
This department has received your letter asking for a
clarification on the problem of radioactive soil contamination at
the proposed U. S. Department of Energy/P1. F. Church, clay mining
operation.
Dr. Carl Johnson revie~.~ed the proposal and indicated no special
radiological controls would be required far this site. The reasons
for this are t~vofold. First, soil contamination is not heavy in
this area and secondly, exposure levels to workers would be minimal
because this type of contamination does not penetrate below the
soil surface.
Sincerely,
~~~ y~3'r~J.' e
Bill Dorrance
Environmental Health Division
BD/cc
RECEIVED
4d AY 8 1519
RECLAPdiA t"ICN SECTION
Colo.
