M.
Water Division 2, Water District 11
Dear Mr. Maly:
OCT 15 2003
Division ~f Minerals and Geology
We have reviewed your May 5, 2003 letter on behalf of Colorado Lime Company, Inc.
(d/b/a Calco) requesting renewal of the substitute water supply plan for the Monarch quarry
pursuant to C.R.S. 37-92-308(5). The previous substitute water supply plan was approved by
this office on September 25, 2001. The quarry site was previously owned by C.F. & I.
Corporation, which mined limestone until the 1960's. Information submitted to DMG (file no. M-
2000-98) indicates that quarrying could last for a period of 20 years, however, you state that the
plan should not last more than 5 years. Notice has beeh provided to those on the notification
list and no comments have- been received from those individuals within the 30-day comment
period.
Water needs for dust suppression and equipment washing have been and will be
supplied from a surface diversion on an unnamed tributary of the South Arkansas River.
Diversions are estimated to be 1,000 gallons per day from June through September, totaling
0.374 acre-foot annually, all of which is considered to be consumed. The diversions are broken
down as follows:
Month ~ Estimated Diversions al ( Estimated Diversions a
June ~ 30000 0.092
July ~ 31000 _
0.095
August _
~- 31000 0.095
Se tember 30000 0.092
Total ~ 122000 ~ 0.374
The proposed source of replacement water would be 0.5 acre-feet annually of Twin
Lakes Water leased from the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District ("District") through
August 1, 2006, which the District has stored in North Fork Reservoir. While Twin Lakes water
is not 100% consumptive, 0.5 acre-foot is expected to yield 0.374 acre-feet of consumptive
credits.
