One site, 5MT2020, located within the pit boundaries, has
been determined to need testing prior to making a determination of
eligibility. It is our understanding based on discussions with the
BLM that this site is to be fenced and avoided by all gravel
operations until testing and any mitigation work is completed by
the BLM. Site documentation and testing has been started and is to
be completed in 1998. Our discussions with the BLM concerning this
site are on going.
Along with the avoidance of 5MT2020, the following statement should
be included in the permit: Should previously unidentified
archaeological resources be discovered during mining activities,
work must be halted until the resources have been evaluated in
terms of the National Register of Historic Places criteria, 36 CFR
60.4, in consultation with this office.
If we may be of further assistance please contact Jim Green at
(303) 866-4674.
Sincerely,
/ v"
Susan M.
